Headingley

Headingley is a suburb of north-west Leeds, about two miles from the city centre.  First mentioned in the Doomsday Book in 1086, Headingley grew as a village until the Industrial Revolution saw the rapid expansion of the area.  Industrial growth and improved transport links saw Headingley become home to those escaping the dirt and conjestion of the city.

Today Headingley is a vibrant community and hub of activity.  Due to its proximity to both the University of Leeds and Leeds Metropolitan University it is an area very popular to students, as well as young professionals who favour its good access to the city centre.  There is a central shopping centre on Otley Road, as well as many bars and cafes.

Headingley is home to the Yorkshire County Cricket Club, as well as Leeds Rhinos and Leeds Carnegie rugby clubs, with fixtures bring many spectators to the area.
