Diary of a church Dog. 18
Well folks it was that time of year again! Which? I hear you ask. Lent? Spring? Eurovision? Mumma planning her Easter Sunday hat? Nope although all of these were in fact correct, the season I am referring to is awards season: Golden Globes, BAFTAs and Oscars and it is to the latter that I wish to ponder. No one could have failed to see the Chris Rock Will Smith incident at the Oscars and I found myself wondering WWJD? (What Would Jesus Do?)
Before the schools broke up for Easter St Michaels hosted the children from the school on a Holy Week Journey. They came into church at the Mount of Olives and travelled into Jerusalem shouting ‘Hosanna.’ The happy laughing crowd but that soon turned to shouting to ‘release Barabbas’ and ‘crucify him.’ Then finally the joy of the hallelujahs of Easter Day.
Jesus was lauded as a saviour, a hero, a new hope for his people. Then the people turned against him and mocked and derided him. Yet he did not respond he took the name calling, the lies against him, the betrayal and denials of his closest friends, he took them all and then from the cross he spoke the words, ‘Father forgive them’
WWJD? Jesus teaches us forgive and turn the other cheek. As we have just celebrated Easter let us try to be like Jesus and move forward in a sense of love and forgiveness rejoicing in the resurrection of light over darkness.
There is a saying ‘Be more dog’ as a dog I can wholeheartedly endorse this. We love unequivocally, wag our tails in joy and in my case sing loudly to express happiness. We try every day to be like Jesus and share our love and joy forgiving without judgement and never asking for anything in return save that you love us back.
May God bless you and may you always be forgiven and forgiving.
Much love TJ
