Every Sunday the choir of St Michael & All Angels' Church maintain a high standard of musical excellence in the offering of worship to God, by singing a wide range of Church music.
This tradition is important to us, and our church musicians work very hard in order to uphold it and to develop it. It is our objective to maintain and develop our established heritage and preserve it for those who will follow.
The Choir regularly takes part in various Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) events during the year, including the annual RSCM Award Ceremonies. These have been in Ripon Cathedral and Leeds Minster. Our choristers been presented with their Bishop's and Dean's awards.
This is a stimulus to us to give our best, and gives us the opportunity to sing in some awe-inspiring buildings and places of worship. As part of our outreach into the Headingley community, the Choir takes part in many community events throughout the year. We can also be heard carol singing at various venues during the run up to Christmas.
We take a personal interest in the musical education of each chorister, and we make sure that they learn all the essential skills in accordance with RSCM syllabus. The choir sings twice each Sunday from 10:00-11:15am for the Parish Eucharist and 6:30-7:30 pm for Evensong. The choir also sings on major feast days and festivals throughout the church year. In return for their regular commitment to the choir, junior choristers receive choir pay. A Chorister will be paid per attendance and also receives payment for each wedding they are asked to sing.
The choir meets every Wednesday evening in the Church from 7:00-8:00 pm for choir practice. If you feel you would like to join the choir, please contact any of us or come along on a Wednesday evening, we will be pleased to see you, young or not so young.
