Matters Arising:

Director of Music: Two candidates were still under consideration.

New Data Protection Rules (GDPR): Some forms and tools had become available on the diocesan website. A training event had been organised: Rebecca Crowson and Glynis Dickson would attend. The new rules would apply from 25 May 2018.

Team Rector’s comments:

Revd Angela Birkin had been in church the previous Sunday, and would be returning gradually to full activity. Her ordination would be on 23rd June. Alex Wheatley would be ordained on the same day at Ripon.

St Michael’s would be one of the drop-off points for departing students to deposit goods for recycling. The dates and logistical arrangements were unclear, and would need to be checked with LUU.

Christian Aid had been designated charity of the season, but a large-scale house-to-house collection was not feasible this year. TW would enquire about resources for selective house-to-house collections.

Treasurer’s Report: A report on the year to April 2018 was received.

It was noted that in the first four months expenditure (excluding share payments in advance) had exceeded income by £22.9k, and that expenditure excluding share had exceeded income by £5.4k.

Fabric Report: An application for grant funding to cover the whole cost of the alterations to the west end of church had been made to the Bramall Foundation. The Application had passed the first meeting, and will be considered by the trustees on 15 August. The outcome should be known by mid-September. The 28-day consultation period for the faculty would begin before the end of May. Planning permission would be required for the glass doors.

The amplifier in church had failed, and a replacement had been purchased. The lead flashings about the north west corner of the church have been repaired. The sump pump in the boiler house is faulty: repair is hand. Following intervention by local councillors, black bin waste collection has been operating correctly for several weeks. There had been a Green Group job day in the churchyard on 21 April. The rear door and guttering on the back wall of the Youth Centre had been repaired.

Sinking between the organ inspection chamber and the path was reported, and would be investigated.

Deanery Matters: A report of the meeting on 15 March had been circulated.

The Archdeacon had drawn attention to the importance of GDPR compliance.

There would be a Diocesan Lay Conference in Harrogate on 9 June 2018: Janet Kramer and Anita Shaw would be attending; other expressions of interest were invited.
